We just completed retrofitting a five bedroom house into a small retreat center at Lutheranch, LLMI's new outdoor ministry site. We're very pleased with how this turned out, but I just learned that this work changed the building classification from residential occupancy to "transient occupancy." With the change in occupany comes a change in state of Georgia codes that we need to comply with, including the need to add a second emergency exit on the upper level and tp provide handicapped access.
Paul Briggs, architect and camp planner that many of you know, was the source of this information for me. I am still determing implications of this and investigating liability for non-compliance. However, I wanted to share this information with other directors, as it is my hunch that other camps could have undertaken similar work. I'll share more information as it comes available.
